XMRV virus and chronic fatigue syndrome


It started with a US study that suggested a possible cause for chronic fatigue syndrome, namely the XMRV virus. http://sacfs.asn.au/news/2009/10/10_12_xmrv_in_the_news.htm Patients, assuming that an antiviral would soon be developed, began to hope for a cure. For me, because my symptoms are often "flu-like", I could easily identify with the idea that a virus was the causal link, especially an autoimmune related virus. However, there is no longer any reason to pin our hopes on the identification of this virus because since the US study, there have been 3 further studies which have not found significant positive results for XRMV in chronic fatigue syndrome patients:
